David Dickinson pointed to the spot after Matty Kennedy was brought down jst inside the box by Jack Brown.

They can now look forward to their first home game of the campaign when Dumbarton are the visitors to Pittodrie in midweek. For a club the size of the Aberdeen, they haven't won nearly enough silverware but this trophy represents their best chance having won it in 2014 and 1995 - their last two major successes. 16:54KEY EVENTFull time - Peterhead 0 Aberdeen 2It's a winning start to the 2022/23 season for Aberdeen. It wasn't a classic but a professional job by Jim Goodwin's men. Chants of "We're going to win the league from the away end". Don't you just love early season optimism. 16:52Gavin BerryNewman MoM It's no great surprise but Jack Newman has been named man of the match. With Benjamin Siegrist having departed Tannadice, the youngster looks to have a bright future at the Tangerines. 16:48Gavin BerryNewman denies Dons againJack Newman has been brilliant between the sticks and this time he denies Dante Polvara as he saves the American's shot and then is quick to his feet to gather the rebound.

16:04KEY EVENTRestart We're back under way in the second half. Surely not another goalless 45 minutes. 15:49KEY EVENTHalf time And it's goalless at the break. Aberdeen have played well and Jim Goodwin can be happy but there is room for improvement in that final third. Peterhead have nothing to lose and the League One side have been well organised and will look to build on that after the restart. 15:46Gavin BerryThird time unlucky for McCrorie Ross McCrorie finally finds the net after going close on two previous occasions but this time the linesman's flag denies him.

And after that Mason Hancock does in fact limp off after failing to shrug off that injury with Marley Watkins replacing the youngster. 15:34Gavin BerryBreak in play Dons youngster Mason Hancock is down injured and receiving treatment. It gives the players a chance to get a much-needed water break and Jim Goodwins passes on some instructions to his players. And thankfully Hancock, who had a loan spell at Stirling Albion, is back on his feet. 15:30Gavin BerryMcCrorie close againRoss McCrorie, who earlier smacked the crossbar, goes close to the opener with his strike touched out for a corner by Jack Newman who did well to get down low and make the save. 15:28Gavin BerryFrustrating for Ramirez Ross McCrorie did brilliantly to win the ball and he fed Vicente Besuijen who crossed for Christian Ramirez but the stretching striker just couldn't get on the end of it. 15:24Gavin BerryAll we are saying...

16:11Gavin BerryRamirez header saved Ross McCrorie hangs up a lovely cross for Christian Ramirez but the American can't get enough power on his header and it's safely into the arms of Jack Newman. It will take more than that to beat the Dundee United loan keeper on this form. 16:08Gavin BerryInjury blow for the home side Hamish Ritchie is stretchered off and it looks like a really serious one for the former Inverurie Locos man. It's a real blow for the home side and applause around the stadium from both sets of fans who sense it's a bad one. Robbie McGale replaces him.

It was a great run from Jayden Richardson down the right and he picked out McCrorie who sent a fine finish beyond Jack Newman. But Richardson was penalised for a foul just before his cross and it looked a harsh decision by referee David Dickinson after great play by the 21-year-old right back. 15:41Gavin BerryRichardson squanders chance Matty Kennedy is again the creator and he has looked on his game, this time a deep cross finding Jayden Richardson but the former Nottingham Forest man gets it all wrong as he sends his effort back across goal when he should have burst the net. 15:37Gavin BerryNewman thwarts Dons againAberdeen put together a sweeping attack with Johnny Hayes setting up Christian Ramirez but the American was denied by a brilliant Jack Newman stop to deny thee Dons the opener.

But the Dons class showed in the end with Matty Kennedy impressive and Ramirez, whose Pittodrie future has been the subject of speculation, was the matchwinner. Aberdeen are looking to wipe away the pain of a miserable last season and this was a start - with four new boys in the starting XI, including skipper Anthony Stewart - but there is a long way to go in the Goodwin rebuild.
